Two very different customers land on the same page: the one with a leak this morning and the one planning a bathroom for the spring. The first wants a phone number, the second wants photos and a price range.
References are the strongest currency here: before and after, with the town, the time it took and roughly what it cost. That convinces faster than any about-us page, and it filters enquiries down to the work you actually want.
Half the enquiries die on geography: people want to know whether you come out to their town at all. A plain list of the areas you cover, and the name of whoever turns up, filters out the trips you were never going to make.
How long it takes and how much mess it makes are the questions behind every enquiry. A realistic timeline, and what happens to the kitchen or the bathroom while the work runs, closes the jobs that a price alone leaves hanging.
Put the measures in order of return. Draughtproofing, loft insulation, walls, glazing, then heating and generation: an honest sequence contradicts what most companies sell and is exactly why a consultant is credible.
Publish payback periods with the numbers behind them. A figure that assumes a particular house and a particular usage is fine as long as the assumptions are stated, and it is far more useful than a percentage.
Explain the assessment. What is measured, whether a thermal camera or a blower door is used and what the report contains turns a survey from an unexplained fee into a document somebody wants.
Be clear about independence. A consultancy that also installs has an interest in the answer, and stating plainly which it is — and how the fee works — is what separates advice from a sales visit.
Say the unfashionable thing first: insulation and draughts before technology. A heat pump in a leaking house is an expensive way to be cold, and the consultancy that puts the measures in the honest order is the one worth paying.
What people actually want is a payback figure. How much a measure costs, what it saves each year and when it pays for itself is the entire decision, and vague language about sustainability answers none of it.
The site answers with numbers rather than values: the honest order of measures, payback periods with their assumptions, and what an assessment includes. Grants explained, independence stated plainly.
The paragraph that earns the fee costs a sale: do not buy a heat pump until the fabric is fixed.
