Memberships behave like subscriptions and break like contracts. Pro-rata joining, a paused month, an upgrade halfway through and a notice period: handled by hand, one of them will be billed wrong every single month.
Meeting rooms are an allowance and an overage. Included hours used, extra hours charged and non-member bookings priced differently: without tracking, the rooms are given away and the invoice is a negotiation.
Access has to follow the contract without anybody thinking about it. A membership that ended on Friday and a fob that still works on Monday is the kind of quiet loss nobody notices for months.
Occupancy varies wildly by day. Tuesday and Wednesday are full while Friday is empty, so selling more desks is safe or reckless depending on a number the space either measures or guesses.
