The measure becomes the order. Room dimensions, doorways, the direction of laying and the wastage allowance produce the quantity, and a mistake means either a second delivery or a pile of unusable boxes.
Wastage is where the margin sits. Ten per cent on a simple rectangular room and considerably more on a hallway with three doorways is the difference between an accurate quote and an optimistic one.
Delivery drives the diary. Material acclimatising in the property for a day or two before fitting is not optional with some products, and a fitting date set before the delivery is confirmed is a date that moves.
Disposal costs money and is usually forgotten. Lifting and taking away an old carpet or floor has a tip charge and a van journey attached, and quotes that omit it are quietly less profitable than they look.
