The tender is a demand of its own, with its own language. A council types «road race organisation specification», and that page barely exists anywhere.
The discipline splits the market into separate worlds. A road race, a sportive and a triathlon involve different permits, timetables and fears.
Timing is searched separately from everything else. Whoever needs only chips, gantries and results looks for exactly that, and the bigger contracts of the following year grow out of those loose orders.
Permits are the client's worry, not the route. Road closure, medical cover and insurance decide whether a club hands the event over.
Brands look for visibility, not organisation. «Trail series sponsorship» and «finish line activation» are searches with a budget behind them.
The calendar sets the searching season. Enquiries for autumn arrive in February, and being visible in January fills the year.
Participant numbers are the first filter any client applies. Four hundred and four thousand runners are two different companies, and both figures deserve writing down.
Sustainability has become an award criterion in public tenders. Describing cup-free stations, travel and the waste balance earns points and traffic at once.
