A technique is a search. Balayage, highlights, a specific toning treatment: those phrases bring the longest appointments and the biggest bills, from clients who can already name what they are after.
Hair type is the most under-served search there is. Curly, afro-textured, fine and thinning: each is a specialism, each brings clients who travel, and each is looked for by people tired of being told their hair is difficult.
Colour correction is searched late in the evening by somebody looking in a mirror after a bad result. It is urgent, it pays well, and the salon that writes about it calmly gets the call the next morning.
Occasions run on a fixed calendar. Weddings are booked months ahead with a trial, proms cluster in a fortnight, and both are searched long before the date by somebody who will not risk an unknown salon.
