People search for the ride itself. Sunday club run, start time, where it leaves from: behind each of those is a person who has watched a group go past their house and wants to know whether turning up next week is allowed.
Road, gravel, mountain and track are separate sports sharing a name. A club that says which it does, and which nights, reaches riders who would otherwise assume nothing local suits them.
Whether the bike is good enough stops more people than fitness does. Somebody with a fifteen-year-old machine in a shed types exactly that question, and a club that answers it — bring what you have, we ride at the speed of the group — converts a reader into a rider.
Routes and local events pull traffic all season. A page about the climb everybody knows, or about preparing for the sportive that passes through, brings riders who live nearby and had never considered joining anything.
