The searches worth winning have a deadline in them. "Wedding cake maker near me" and "birthday cake next day" come from someone who has already decided to buy and is only choosing where — which makes them worth far more than any generic bakery term.
One page per occasion is where the results come from. A wedding page answers tiers, servings, tasting and delivery to the venue; a children's party page answers nothing of the sort. A single "our cakes" page ranks for neither of them.
Christmas is an October job. Searching starts at the end of October and a new page needs weeks to settle, so a festive page published in December mostly earns its keep the following year. The same is true of Easter and of wedding season.
Day-to-day trade comes from the map pack — "cake shop near me", "cake shop open now". Your own photographs, accurate hours and reviews decide it, and none of that costs anything beyond keeping it up.
